Just as CPR helps even those without medical training assist an individual having a heart attack, Youth Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a young person experiencing a mental health crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aiders learn a five-step action plan that guides them through the process of reaching out and offering appropriate support. YMHFA training is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people ages 12-18; including teachers, parents, coaches, clergy, school bus drivers, paraprofessionals, juvenile and human services workers, etc. Offered in 23 countries and all 50 states, as of 2016 more than 1 Million people have trained in Mental Health First Aid in the United States.
Participants receive a 200 page reference manual containing extensive information on various mental health disorders and lists of resources.
7.5 contact hours are granted.
If you have any questions, or are interested in arranging for a training for your staff, agency, or community group please contact Pat Clark, Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Coordinator, at 513.673.2410.
