Wellness Center

The WCEA person standing in a roomDescription automatically generatedSC Wellness Center has started the 20-21’ School Year welcoming 24 students to the program. We are thrilled to celebrate program growth and expansion as the Wellness Center has moved from 5 classrooms to 8 for students K-12. That growth has brought new opportunities and positions within the Wellness Center.  We have added 4 Behavior Interventionists, a K-6th teacher, an intervention specialist, individual therapists, and additional paraprofessionals. The students and staff have approached the start of the year with a positive attitude adjusting to the environmental changes resulting from the current pandemic.

PAES LAB

The PAES (PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT EXPLORATION SYSTEM) is designed to use a classroom or a community site as a work development lab where students become employees and teachers become employers. This lab is used to assess a student's competitive work potential and interest level, while simultaneously exploring various jobs, using real tools, and developing proper work behaviors in the following five areas:

  • computer technology
  • construction/industrial
  • processing/production
  • consumer/service
  • business/marketing

The PAES lab is located at our Western Row Campus.  We are currently providing opportunities for our Social Communication students as well as students from the WCESC Learning Center.  Future plans include opening a second PAES lab to provide opportunities for students within school districts to participate. Check out some of the students participating in the lab:

SOCIAL COMMUNICATION INTERACTIVE BULLETIN BOARD

bulletinIn effort to create communication and engagement opportunities for students at our Western Row location, our Social Communication SLPs have collaborated to create an interactive bulletin board which encourages students to participate in additional opportunities to develop language and communication skills.
